Giant Grande Sonnierre Carriage Clock
This is a beautiful Grande Sonnierre Giant size carriage antique clock of French manufacture dating from the last half of the 19th century which is in lovely restored condition.
The images should show prospective buyers all they need to see but a personal inspection is very welcome.
This is a very large clock that is 12 pounds in weight and is 10 inches high with the handle raised. It is 7 3/4 inches tall with the handle down and 5 3/4 wide. The depth is 4 3/4 inches.I have shown it in the centre of a selection of carriage antique clocks , the ebonised repeater being a standard size and at the other side a large grande sonnierre antique clock. It really is an impressive size.
The case has reeded Corinthian capped columns . The capitals are copper plated.
The overall condition is excellent being fully restored and the movement professionally serviced.It will delight the most discerning client.
The fine quality 8 day duration French movement retains its original large silvered platform escapement with club tooth lever escapement and is in perfect working order.
The complicated mechanism has grande sonnierre quarter striking on two coiled gongs or the choice of petite sonnierre striking.There is also a silence lever which prevents the clock chiming duration use but still allows use of the the repeat button.
The main dial is recessed in the silvered making and has some minor age related marks
There is also an alarm facility the dial of which is located under the main clock dial
This clock was manufactured to be of the highest quality and would have been very enormously expensive when new.It has obviously been well cared for and cherished all its life.
