Primitive Wooden Model of a Victorian Locomotive Folk art train primitive train
The large, naïvely constructed and primitive painted wooden locomotive train with carriage set in pea green with cast iron wheels, smoke stack and boiler survives form the first quarter of the twentieth century.

In as found condition the piece remains un-cleaned or un-restored, there is loss to parts of the locomotive with rusting to the metal and one part of loss to the wheel, the chimney has seen somewhat better days but the whole is still thoroughly charming.

Early toy trains or those without steam or clockwork were simple toys made to be pushed or pulled along the floor. Generally, these trains consisted of a locomotive and an attached carriage and wagon. Made at home or in European cottage industries, these first toy trains were fashioned of wood, tin or lead as we in this example.

Enchantingly decorative, on that, there mantelpiece.
