Wellington’s Victories against Napoleon Medallions
Medallions Of Wellington’s Victories Against Napoleon in the Peninsular Campaign
A group of gilt bronze medallions in very good condition dating to 1814. This group consists of 23 individual medallions, the obverse commemorating Wellington’s victories in the peninsular against Napoleon Bonaparte from 1808 until 1814. On the reverse is a floating winged angel and to the edge ‘By The Mercy Of God’. They are contained within a brass canister which is inscribed with ‘British Victories in the Peninsular.(slight wear to inscription) The cover has a portrait of Wellington and the words ‘Marquis of Wellington’. Stamped inside the cover ‘Manufactured by Thomason & Jones’ on the bottom of the canister ‘First Battle Portugal Aug.17. 1808 Last Battle France AP.10. 1814’. The set also has a mahogany display stand.
The medallions measure 16mm dia.
The canister is 18mm dia. x 3.7cm H.
Mahogany display stand is 19.8cm x 6cm x 9mm.
Wear commensurate with age and use.
Size 1.8cm dia x 3.7cm H.
