This lovely chinoiserie cabinet dates from the first part of the twentieth century. It is in the oriental style. It was originally a Mastertone gramophone cabinet, and retains its hinged lift-up top, but it has been converted and no gramophone is present. The cabinet has double bow-fronted doors at the front, which open to reveal a converted interior with a later middle partition and a later hanging rail to one side. The cabinet is supported on nice turned legs.

Condition: Overall this piece does have some wear and damage consistent with age and use and would benefit from some sympathetic restoration. The interior has been basically converted at some point, but would benefit from being re-done. Externally the cabinet has some scuffing, wear and marking, and there is some damage and loss to the chinoiserie decoration. The lacquered finish is split to one side. The top is quite heavily scuffed and worn and is a little bowed. The doors do not quite sit flush and the rail below the doors is loose to one side. There is a piece of metal covering the hole where the winding handle would have sat on one side. There are various holes and conversions inside and the supporting rail beneath the top is loose.
