This vintage powder compact is suitable for use with loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.
A high quality luxury Stratton powder compact with all the original accessories, made in the 1950s. This compact has never been used and it is in new old stock condition. The gilt lid is engraved with a complex and beautiful guilloche design which the makers named " BARLEY ". In the middle a blank cartouche and around the edges scroll work. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. This compact is fitted with a automatic opening lid - the inner lid opens once the mirror is tilted back. This is part of the luxury range of Stratton accessories and so it is fitting that the mirror is beveled. This accessory was costly to produce back in the day. The mirror has the original mirror stickers in place stating " JEWELLERS HAND ENGINE TURNED FINISH " " Important Instructions To Open Inner lid press mirror lid gently back To Close bring mirror lid down A STRATTON Patent ". The mirror is good and gives an accurate clear reflection. The inner lid is decorated with vertical lines and the " Compact - in - Hand " logo. This luxurious compact will never need to be cleaned or tarnish as it was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of lacquer. The original pristine Stratton pouch, puff, sifter and rosette are in place and all in new old stock condition. The compact is coated with a layer of white enamel to protect the powder well. The base is decorated with vertical lines. The original presentation box is still in good condition.
This compact measures almost 3" and weighs 91.1 grams.
