Set of George III Irish Mahogany Dining Chairs
This magnificent set of Irish chairs date from 1755-1765, George III, and carry the Prince of Wales feathers.
Of exceptionally fine workmanship and in exemplary original condition the design, construction method and finesse of the work indicates a Master antique furniture maker.
The chairs are solid mahogany with figured mahogany veneers which is a combination only found on the highest quality chairs of this period.
These are of exceptional quality and in superb original condition with no restorations, alterations or later timbers and retaining their original finish. The upholstery is not original but is a Gainsborough Weaving Company pure silk fabric called Chinaman and an exact copy of a 1740s upholstery silk. A few small fragments of the original upholstery remained and was a gold patterned silk which I have matched as closely as possible.
Elements of the design and construction are taken directly from Thomas Chippendale’s published Director in 1754.
Purchased from a private house (originally bought in 1898 and supplied with copy of the original invoice from Spillman & Co of the Strand, London) a set of four dining chairs of this quality and condition are extremely rare.
These need to be seen to be appreciated as our photos do not convey the quality, great weight or wonderful condition of these chairs.
One the finest examples of Georgian seat furniture on the market today.
Dimensions are:
Maximum width is 24 inches, depth is 24 inches and height is 40 inches.
Height from floor to top of chair pad is 20 inches.
For metric please multiply each inch by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice. PricePOA Category Antique Furniture Date c.1760 Mid 18th Century Antiques Material Mahogany Origin Irish Item code as216a590 Status Sold
