A gorgeous novelty loose powder compact made in the 1950s. This little Pygmalion globe has all the countries of the world and seas engraved on it in fine detail. We find this 1950s vanity particularly charming as the brass was not lacquered by the maker. As a result the exterior case has the most glorious patina - the gold is golden brown. The compact is spherical - a miniature of the world as it was in the 1950s. None of the engraving and lettering has worn. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The interior case contains the original sifter and powder well, as well as a mirror which gives a clear and accurate reflection. The mirror has some age related marks which in no way detract from this delightful piece. Measures 2 1/8" diameter and weighs 80.9 grams.
