This is a lovely and most unusual late 19th century Japanese red lacquer chest of drawers with a beautiful deep colour and attractive patination. The chest has all its original hand forged ironwork handles and strapwork and has swing over lifting handles that were used with a beam slid through for two people to transport the chest around. The chest is constructed from pine and cedarwood with a deep red lacquer finish. This is one of two near matching pieces we have currently listed, the other photographed here in the last picture. These chests came with their purchase invoice from the previous owner who bought these as a pair from the Gordon Reece Gallery of Finkle Street Knaresborough for £1610 in 1996. The chest dates from around 1870 and measures 1 metre high 88cm wide by 41cms deep.
