Queen Anne Oak Bureau / Desk / Chest Of Drawers
-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-
A very charming Queen Anne oak bureau.
c1710.
This very characterful oak bureau has a fall-front framed with double half-round mouldings, over two short, and two long graduating drawers, also with double half-round drawer dividers. The drawers each have lovely original brass engraved escutcheons and iron locks. There are evidence of earlier split pin handles, which have been replaced by brass swan-neck handles at some point in the later Georgian period.
The fall-front opens to reveal a very charming fitted interior, with an arrangement of several pigeon hole compartments, over four drawers of varying sizes, having a pretty central cupboard door, with a double domed carved door front. Below the door is a spacious concealed well with covering slide.
The colour is a delightful rich honey, medium oak, with a warm and glowing patina, very tactile, and oozes character.
Standing on slightly later bracket feet.
Such a versatile, very useful piece of antique furniture. If you have limited space, you have a desk combined with a chest of drawers, with room to store a lap-top etc
The condition is very good, having general signs of use consistent with age.
Solid, sturdy and strong.
The dimensions are.
Height-99cm.
Width-91cm.
Depth-51cm.
