A fabulous polished copper navigation lantern for the port side from a ship, this has the brass label for the ‘Seahorse’ maker of Birmingham, England.

– Brightly polished copper, with glass lens to the front.
– Plate at one side lifts up with the handle to access the internal lamp fixtures.
– Three brass label plates: the top shows ‘Port’ above glass label says ‘Seahorse GB Trademark’ with an image of a composite creature with a horse’s head and a fish tail, with the number P60910 beneath bottom label says “Patent no. 54657” with further digit obscured by screw, “and others pending”.
– The Seahorse trademark was used by Bocock & Wilkinson of Birmingham for ship’s lights from 1900, continuing as Bocock & Son, and from around the 1930s as George Bocock & Co.
– Cap at top lifts to give access to internal space, and the handle at the side lifts the plate up to reveal the lamp fixtures.
– Tap screw on plate on the side opposite to the sliding lift plate.
– Handle at top will allow it to be hung.

This will make a wonderful statement piece for an interior decorator, with the bright copper work perhaps making a great addition to a large country kitchen display. It will also make a good piece for a marine style restaurant or nautical themed bar. It might also be converted to an electric lamp.

In good condition, this has only the wear and tear expected for its age, with some minor unobtrusive dents. The glass is undamaged.
