This is an attractive pair of large Japanese Satsuma vases dating from the Early 20th Century which were converted to lamps about 15 years ago & have been in storage ever since. The vases have been cut down and fitted with quality antiqued brass mounts.

The scenes on each lamp are the mirror image of the other. They depict scenes of Samurai warriors fighting with swords and spears. The painting, enameling and gilding were executed by hand so there are slight differences in their execution between vases, but there is no doubting the skill of the artist. Given the right size and shape of shade these lamp bases would make quite a statement in a living room or hallway.

Condition: The overall condition is good. The surfaces of the lamps are covered in a craquelure glaze. There are a few marks and scratches to the surfaces commensurate with their age. One of the lamps has some nibbles at the edge of the base (see photo) which are not obvious as it stands on the antiqued brass platform.

The lamps have been professionally wired and have 2 metre long antique gold coloured cables. They are offered without shades.
