A large copper wine cistern or cooler dating to late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. The wine cooler is made from large sheets of copper which have been seemed and decorated with repousse decoration of elaborate foliate scrollwork. There are two large cast brass handles and cast lion paw feet all finely modelled. The condition is good but appropriate for the age and use with some soldered repairs. There would have originally been a drain in the base but this has been filled. The whole has a great look with a lovely worn patina to the metalwork and has a great country house decorative appeal. C.1800.
