John Pearson Copper Arts & Crafts Tray c1895
We have for sale a large and very attractive Victorian arts and crafts John Pearson copper tray.
This large copper planished arts and crafts oblong tray extends to copper handles at either end and carries the oval John Pearson marks on the back at either end. The tray dates to some time after 1892 when John Pearson moved his affiliation from the Guild of Handicraft in London to Newlyn.
John Pearson was one of the leading figures in the English arts and crafts movement. He was one of the four original founders of the London Guild of Handicraft, but left the Guild in 1892 due to disagreements about signing work and producing work outside the guild. He then continued to produce work in his own workshop and at the the Newly School where he also lectured.
The tray is 21 & 3/4 inches (55.25cm) long, 13 & 1/2 inches (34.3cm) wide and 1 inch (2.5cm) deep. The tray is in a very good antique condition other than some very slight movement in the handles and the surface wear one would expect from a 120 or so year old piece of arts and crafts copper.
