Georgian Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase Desk Writing
Antique quality Georgian / Regency flame mahogany secretaire bookcase C1800-1830 with built in desk / writing table.
This is a lovely quality item, that is full of age, charm and character. A very decorative piece that a tremendous amount of work went into. Amazing rosewood veneered interior with replacement leather writing surface. Lovely patinated ormolu parting beads.
Solid with no loose joints. No woodworm. One of the best that you will find without OTT restoration.
Great age and patina (the best). Splits into two halves for transport (96.5cmH base & 117.5cmH top). Pin hinges on the glazed doors so take care when assembling (you don't want the doors to fall on the floor and smash).
Overall maximum dimensions: 123cmW x 50cmD x 214cmH (78cmH writing) surface). Adjustable shelves (108cm x 27.5cm, top 110cm x 35cm, bottom)...some of the support pegs have been replaced.
Historic knocks, marks, cracks, scratches, wear, imperfections, repairs and alterations, as is always the way and to be expected with genuine antique furniture. No keys and the locks are untested. There is an historic repair to the RHS of the cornice, but it isn't very noticeable. Minor distortion to the cupboard door panels, but the doors themselves are straight (therefore open and close well). Retains much of it's original glass, although a few panes have been replaced historically. Some of the white internal knobs have been replaced. The bottom edge catch on the left hand glazed door is missing, although the top one does the job fine.
Please note that this item is large and heavy. Please make sure before buying that it will fit in and can be maneuvered into the room that it is intended for (check ceiling height as well). The customer will need to provide 1 strong able bodied person for our driver to assist with carrying.
