English Naval Sword.
A rare English 1827 pattern Naval officers fighting sword. The quill pointed pipe backed blade has some staining and small pitting patches but traces of the original etching on the blade can be seen. The scabbard fittings are good but the scabbard leather is showing its age and is a bit flimsy The hilt is good with all grip wire remaining. Naval swords with this type of blade only lasted until 1846 when Henry Wilkinson manufactured a single fullered blade and this is how most swords are found. This sword is illustrated in the book World Swords 1400--1945 by Harvey.J Withers.
