Description:
This is a good quality antique English Carolean style solid oak joint stool, circa 1780 - 1800, constructed with earlier timbers, displaying a lovely rich colour, in excellent original condition. The table was fashioned in the style of a mid-17th century Carolean period stool, using earlier timbers. For vernacular cabinetmakers and craftsmen during the 18th century, it was necessary to re-purpose earlier 16th and 17th century antique furniture, such as chests, coffers and chairs into new items required for the home, as craftsmen only had access to local materials. You could say this was the original form of upcycling!
The stool benefits from a two-piece moulded top with nice overhand, above a lunette carved frieze and stands on four splayed ring turned knop legs on block feet, united by four bar stretchers, for additional strength, terminating on block feet. The stretchers are decorated with primitive chip-edge carved detail. The stool has been made with traditional wooden peg joined construction. The stools have been waxed polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The stool is solid in joint and ready to use.
This occasional table feature a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
This 18th century period oak stool would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, as stools and also as side or lamp antique tables. It would certainly grace any home or office and are a great investment, as it is extremely functional and decorative.
