We have for sale a very decorative and useful Edwardian arts and crafts copper slipper box.

The slipper box consists of a beaten copper covered sloped wooden lid decorated with an art nouveau design to the upper left and bottom right corners and the word slippers across the centre. The lid is fitted by a pair of sturdy hinges to a beaten copper covered wooden box with a steel covered back.

Slipper boxes were designed to be placed by the fireside and were constructed to absorb heat thus warming the slippers placed inside them. So after a hard day a person could sit down by the fire and place warm slippers on their feet. This slipper box was designed to perform this function very effectively, the steel covered back was painted black so that it could absorb heat so aiding in the warming process.

The slipper box is 16 inches (40.6cm) wide, 10 inches (25.4cm) deep and 8.5 inches (21.5cm)high. The slipper box is in very good antique condition although there is the surface ware and aging one would expect from a well used copper slipper box of this period.
