Arts & Crafts Oval Copper Tray, early 1900s
By Hugh Wallis (1871-1943), renown Arts & Crafts Movement coppersmith working in Altrincham, Cheshire.
This beautiful handcrafted and hand beaten art metalwork plate is decorated with a central pewter inlay wreath
depicting a rare bird motif.
The ropetwist edge is decorated with a copper and pewter repeat pattern over the upturned rim.
Clearly punch stamped on top (left hand side, next to the rim) with a monogram HW for Hugh Wallis.
Unpolished. Original patina. Wonderfully detailed pewter inlay still clear and bright. This item is available to view at the Red House Antiques Centre in York.
