An appealing fully hallmarked silver powder compact made in the 1940s. The lid has an ornate bright-cut panel which features floral motifs and scroll work. Either side the lid is decorated with an engine turned design of tiny diamond shapes intersected by four fine vertical lines. The base has alternating smooth vertical lines and minute diamond shape guilloche engraving. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives an excellent reflection. The original puff & sifter are present. The exterior & interior are embellished with engraving which has been done entirely by hand. Bright-cut engraving is executed in such a way as to catch the light & give an impression of brightness. The compact is in good condition. There are some slight signs of use on the base which do not detract from the pleasing appearance of this mid-century vanity. This vintage compact mirror measures 8.5 cm & weighs 110.5 grams. Free lavishly illustrated history of this piece included.
