Antique Chinese Cloisonne Plate, Meiji Period.
In General
A beautifully decorated 19th Century Chinese Cloisonne plate or charger on bronze, Meiji Period 1868 - 1913. The plate's royal blue border is decorated with two stunning, finely worked enameled, green and gold Dragons with purple horns, dynamically chasing each other around the edge of the plate!
In the centre there are three enameled Cranes flying on a turquoise background. The back is covered with cobalt blue enamel with a swirl cloison background around the edges with matching blue enamel inside the foot ring. The plate has an attractive bronze rim.
Cloisonne is an ancient and highly skilled technique of creating designs on metal vessels with coloured glass paste, known as enamel, placed within enclosures made of copper, called cloisons.
