An early Mouseman burr oak wardrobe
An impressive large early 4 feet wide and 6 feet high burr oak panelled Double Wardrobe from the Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson of Kilburn workshops. Adzed all over, in line with early craftsmanship, externally it features a half-penny moulded top frieze, twin panelled doors, panelled sides and traditional wrought iron door fittings which feature a very early square screw head design. The interior is in excellent clean condition and features a full height oak hanging rail and a fitted storage area.At 58cm depth it is deep enough for the largest modern coat-hangers unlike the 47cm depth wardrobes which do not take modern hangers.
Medium fumed from new it is in excellent condition with a wonderful rich aged colour. There has been one repair to a crack in one of the back panel supports however this does not show from the front.
This wardrobe was bought direct from Robert Thompson in the late 1920's and has been in the same Somerset house ever since.
Size 123cm wide x 59cm depth x 182cm high.
We would remind prospective purchasers that these wardrobes are both heavy and bulky, requiring 3 people to move safely.
