This is a large Victorian period antique goffering iron, also called an 'Italian' or 'Tally' Iron.
It is made of cast iron and would have been heated by inserting a poker and used to iron or flatten cuffs, collars and ruffles on clothing.

They were often made in sets of graduating size. AUTUMN SALE
