An unused & gorgeous mid-century Stratton vanity set in the original presentation box. It is unusual to also find these sets with the original Stratton signed outer box also - this one has it! It is absolutely beautiful and in the coveted NOS (new old stock) condition we all cherish so much. Seeing this beauty is like going back in the day and buying it from the makers. All original and gleaming. The powder compact and the lipstick holder are protected by the a coat of transparent lacquer applied at the point of manufacture. This process ensures that these accessories will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. Both items in this high quality set are decorated with very attractive engine turned designs. The compact has a clean central rectangular cartouche which would be ideal for engraving with the monogram of the recipient. The compact opens to reveal an excellent mirror which gives an accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed 'STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND.' On the mirror the original sticker which reads as follows 'REAL ENGINE-TURNED FRONT'. The original instruction leaflet making the new owner aware that this versatile accessory is suitable for both loose and compressed face powder. Another instruction leaflet advises 'KEEP THIS STRATTON COMPACT IN THE POCHETTE PROVIDED PLEASE. Do this and its brilliance will be retained, scratches prevented and its life prolonged.' A little diagram shows a hand placing a compact in its 'pochette' - quite delightful. The original puff which the makers named the 'luxury puff' is just like all the other accessories - in new old stock condition. The pale pink silk puff top is signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND' and it bears the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo, an invention of which the makers were evidently very proud. The circular black felt pouch is neatly stitched, as is the pretty pink velour edged sifter. The powder well has a protective coat of white enamel. The base is embellished with shiny gold tone stars. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The case is just as delightful as the vanities it contains. It is cream and gold. The interior lid is signed 'Stratton'. The interior base contains custom made recesses for the compact and lipstick which are covered in white satin. The outer box is black and signed 'Stratton' in gold all over it. It is very good to see the base of this box stamped with the product number of this vanity set - '7363/389'. We adore the little details like this! Another nice little surprise for you....... the lipstick holder has the original lipstick that was placed in so many years ago.........unused and vibrant. As was the fashion in mid-century England the lipstick is bright red. How many of you remember your mother in front of the mirror in the hallway applying her red lipstick before she leaves the house? She would say 'I'm just putting my face on.' What an evocative set which brings back these happy memories! The lipstick has not been used. The base of the lipstick holder is signed 'Stratton No 2' and its twist up mechanism works perfectly. The original lipstick holder instruction leaflet gives instructions on how to replace the tube of lipstick.
