A British 1845 pattern navel cutlass. Sheet steel guard painted black as was normal for these weapons there are two holes in the guard without doubt for a rack number the blade has a war department arrow with W below with a Victorian crown the other side of the blade is marked 10/81. A heavy sturdy weapon the blade is not bent it has been black painted normal a good cutlass showing it’s age in uncleaned condition as it came to us.
