17thC Joined and Pegged Burr Yew Wood Centre Table
With a fabulous colour and figuring, an early joined Yew wood centre or serving table c. 1670
The top made from a single piece of thickly cut yew with dark burrs and figuring and with dings and bruises. A square piece of fruitwood has been patched in to fill a knot hole during the 19th century, noticeable on close inspection but an honourable scar and not unattractive.
The legs turned in solid yew and in one piece including the flattened bun feet. These with some old worm and depletions. There is old evidence of worm here and there, all long since dead and not significant or affecting structure.
The deep frieze and matching stretchers with ogee borders and channel carved decoration stretchers also carved. Two short stretchers old replacements. Originally made without a drawer, one has been added in the 19th Century using a section of the original frieze with drawer lining and runners added.
An good early provincial piece made from beautiful ancient Yew with a well developed colour and deep patina. A very robust and sturdy table, usable, practical and beautiful.
Dimensions are:
22.5 inches wide, 42.5 inches long and 30.5 inches high to the table top.
Floor to bottom of the apron is 23 inches.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
