17th C English Antique Oak Box Settle

A 17th Century antique box settle with possible links to George Bernard Shaw, the famous playwright.
The settle was apparently owned by the family of Shaw's wife's, Charlotte Townsend. A paper label inside reads "This settle came to grandfather WG Wood 1890 from the townsend family, Miss Charlotte Townsend married GB Shaw. Horace Payne townsend (father of Charlotte) Derry House in the Parish of Rosecarbery, Co Cork, WG Wood was auctioneer in Skibbereen, Co. Cork"
With lunette carved cresting rail above two panels incorporating serpents over a dividing rail inscribed "Reste and bee thankful"and three further panels below with arches encompassing foliate forms and floral rossettes, flanked either side by chamfered uprights, tipped with turned finials.
The arms rest upon baluster turned posts over box seat. With hinged lid lifting to reveal a void interior. Identical carving can be seen to the front of the box seat mirroring the arches, floral forms and rossettes above.
Original butterfly hinge to box seat on right (the left is a later replacment). Lock and key fully function.
Excellent colour and patina.
