15th Century Oak Church Strongbox Or Coffer C.1450
An extremely rare and attractive oak strongbox dating to the 15th century with irregular iron strengthening straps retaining some original locks and iron bar handles. The chest was probably intended originally for ecclesiastical use strongboxes of this kind would have been intended to store the church valuables. Examples similar to this can still be seen in some churches today. However, this particular example is a truly unique piece. Original hinges and handles.
