T E Lawrence "Lawrence of Arabia" Trench Art Dinner/Mess Gong. All trench art is unique, however this is a truly a unique piece, its a beautiful mess call or dinner gong, which is highly engraved, but part of the engraving is Damascus October 1918. This is quite a significant date as its the date the T E Lawrence "Lawrence of Arabia" was reported to have captured the city of Damascus, although as we know its disputed. I think its lovely to think this gong could have been used to call T E Lawrence in for afternoon tea lol.
The gong/shell is wonderfully decorated with what appear to be knights riding a a tiger and a camel, and has peacocks and other natural foilage decorated all around it, the shell is marked on the base Berndorf 1917. The mount the gong hangs upon is made from a piece of World War One propellor and the hammer is also made from pieces of a World War One plane.
Please study the photos as these form part of the description, however they cant do the item justice, the workmanship on this item is awesome.
Measurements are (when hanging). 28.5 cm high, 19.7 cm wide and 11 cm deep.
