Large Painted Terracotta Garden Gnome c.1905. %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A remarkable large late 19th.c. painted terracotta figure of a gnome c.1905. Attributed to the great German maker of garden statuary Bernhard Strobel. A unusually large figure, standing three feet tall. Exceptionally well modelled with a cheerful face, long beard and briar pipe. Dressed in the classic red gnome’s hat, shirt, britches and pointed slippers and depicted as a coal miner, pushing a wooden barrow, his face and clothes blackened with coal dust. Lovely condition with some earlier repairs, to his left thumb and left leg. Presented on an oak board with moulded edge.
Dimensions: height 36″, width 30″, depth 12″.
