Handsome Antique Jasperware Stilton / Cheese Dome
Sorry this item is now sold, however should you seek similar, please feel free to contact me with your requirements. Thank you.
Offered here is a very large, antique Jasperware cheese / stilton dish and dome.
Dating to circa 1865 this splendid piece probably hails from the Dudson factory.
Whilst the large scale and handsome proportions are impressive in themselves, it is actually the wonderful sense of detail inherent within this piece that is just so good, with the fox hunting narrative playing out around the circumference of the dome being fantastically well rendered.
The borders are given equal attention, being finished with superb garlands of intertwined oak leaves and branches, loaded with acorns.
The finial is styled in the form of a rope knot.
A quite brilliant thing.....and certainly one of the nicest pieces of Jasperware that I've had in my possession.
