French circa 1840 cutlass in brass mounted scabbard. Has a makers inscription and date on the spine of 1842. Heavy, polished curved blade with two proof marks at forte. Engraved both sides with an anchor. Has a sheet iron hilt with some original black paint and an iron grip. Leather scabbard has slight wear and blade has a few edge nicks. In general sound condition overall.

Approximately 83cm overall and blade length 68cm.
