Stunning late 19th.c. jardiniere and stand c.1890 by the celebrated majolica specialist Clement Massiere of Golfe-Juan on the French Riviera. Of impressive proportions, standing 45″ tall, the bowl having a diameter of 15½” at the lip. Art Nouveau influence design with twisted sinuous form in a gorgeous Mediterranean blue glaze – product of the Massier brothers experiments with copper oxides. Clear stamp to the underside for Clement Massier (1844 – 1917). Hairline cracks to the glaze on the top of the stand, otherwise excellent condition.
