A rare Volunteer sword socket bayonet dating from the last quarter of the 18th century. The bayonet is an uncleaned sleeper. It is grey stained overall but there is no pitting. The bayonet has a large vertical flat blade of 24.75 inches with an overall length of 29.7 inches. An example of this bayonet can be found on page 47 of the book "British And Commonwealth Bayonets" with the prefix B59.There is a small age crack near the sockets fixing slot. In 1843 this pattern of bayonet was accepted by the British Ordnance department at Enfield and officially supplied to the Sappers and Miners. These bayonets are invariably stamped Enfield on the spine of the blade close to the socket. Post cost will be twelve pounds. You must be over the age of 18years to buy this weapon.
