Antique Microscope, English, Brass, c.1910
This is an antique microscope. An English, brass jug handle scientific instrument by C. Baker of London, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Attractive and appealing scientific instrument
Displays a desirable aged patina
Lacquered brass in deep dark hues — some wear commensurate with age and use
Mahogany carry box shows rich russet hues and benefits from working lock — key present
Extendable eyepiece tube over a rack and pinion main focus with additional fine focus
Triple revolving nosepiece resides above a square stage with mechanical slide holder
The three C. Baker objective lenses with supplied brass canisters resting within a mount
Bright plano-concave mirror beneath the slide holder
Polished brass trim beams against the dark lacquer of the main body
Distinctive form known as the 'jug handle' Baker microscope
Engraved for Charles Baker operated from 244 High Holborn, London
This example with the initials D.P.H. - Department of Public Health - and serial number 6626
