1887 Queen Victoria Draycott Derbyshire Jubilee Plate
#AD208 Draycott Festival Transferware Victoria Bristol Pottery Plate
This is a rare and heavy original antique ironstone blue and white English pottery plate to commemorate the 1887 Draycott Festival Jubilee. It would have been made in small production, and we feel very lucky to have found it intact, and in this wonderful condition.
Text on this jubilee celebration plate reads:
Draycott Festival
Queen Victoria 1887 Jubilee Year
Draycott sits on the River Derwent in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, England. It is about 6 miles east of Derby on the Derby Canal, which once ran through it. It is in the parishes of Draycott and Church Wilne and was a cotton spinning town and farming village. The famous Judge Henry Draycott 1510-1572 hailed from Draycott, whose family had assumed their surname from the original village name and not the other way around. His estate there was called Mornington. The Victoria Mill is a dominant feature of the village and was built in 1906, named after the Queen.
It has a deeply incised potter's mark of "Bristol" on reverse and set of incised or impressed numbers reading "487." This 130+ year old Bristol pottery piece is decorated with a graphic transferware design of the beloved Queen, to celebrate her 50 year reign of England 1837-1887.
There are no chips, cracks or repairs, is in beautiful, clean condition. It was found in Newton Abbot, Devon, England with a collection of royalty or royal plates. This collection is being listed on our site daily. We can find no other evidence of this plate in any searches. It is rare and a stunning original Derbyshire and Draycott village history / historical piece.
Size: 9.75 inches in diameter ——We have a 100% approval policy. For any questions, email Debra at the contact box below. Thank you, ~debra
