William Toleman Longcase clock
A Welsh 8 day longcase clock by William Toleman of Caernarvon c1780 in date. This is an almost all oak longcase with a swan neck pediment to the hood top and pillars to the trunk sides with shaped plinth . The original finish to the case is a very nice golden redish colour.
In excellent condition and the 8day movement has been recently cleaned and serviced. It has a beautifully painted square dial by Wilson of Birmingham as do most of the other painted dial clocks in my showroom. Painted dial longcase clocks took over from the all brass dialed clocks towards the end of the 18th century.
The Toleman family are a very well known Welsh family of clock makers and several other clocks by this William Toleman are recorded. Several other clock making members of the same family are also recorded the book of watch and clockmakers of the world.
