William Reed Chelmsford Georgian Longcase Clock
A well proportioned Georgian longcase clock. An oak case with an arched hood pediment and side glass hood apertures. Brass capped front and rear quartered fluted columns. An arched trunk door with moulded edging. A well engraved arched silvered dial with strike/silent to the top. Blued steel hands with seconds dial and a date aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A London quality mechanism with 5 pillars.
William Reed of Chelmsford is recorded in Baillies 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1770-1784. This example dates to circa 1775. His father and brother were also clockmakers in Chelmsford.
