Here is an example of a superb quality antique William IV Scottish flame mahogany inlaid two-door linen press cupboard, circa 1835. The linen press features two exquisite flame mahogany doors with a classic William IV inset dome shaped design incorporating ebonised beaded moulding to the door panels. The flame mahogany veneers are mirror matched on both doors and outer quadrants of the doors. The right door features its original brass strip (a sign of quality) and the original working lock (with key) and key escutcheon. Decorative boxwood edging adorns the front of the doors, along with the canopy and drawer fronts. The boxwood is flanked by additional decorative satinwood string inlay. The top section supports a drop down (detachable) inlaid cornice. Below, the two-over-three graduated drawers are hand dovetailed, cock beaded (another sign of quality) and feature pine drawer sides with mahogany drawer bottoms. The drawers feature later brass swan neck handles. The press terminates on a lovely moulded frieze to the base with the later bracket feet. Inside, the linen press retains its original four mahogany detachable sliding linen trays. The linen press also features the original pine backboards. This is a sought after linen press due to its intricate inlaid detail to the front of the press and stunning flame mahogany door panels. The linen press dismantles into three sections (canopy, top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.

The linen press has a rich mahogany brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This item is an excellent investment but also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This item base would certainly grace any home. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

Condition Report
This item is in very good condition. Both doors close and lock comfortably. There are no warps or splits to the flame mahogany doors (which is common in linen presses). Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, specifically the base (see photos) but nothing significant considering its age. Importantly, the entire satinwood and tulipwood inlay to the front of the press is complete and intact (very rare to see). All pine and mahogany lined drawers’ open freely and close flush to the frame, as do the linen trays. The upper section retains its original mahogany line linen trays. A working key operates the two doors only. The press features later brass swan neck handles and bracket feet. The back, brass door strip, inlay, locks and internal linen tray are all original. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
