William IV Mahogany Dining Table , T.Treherne 1830s
An impressive William IV figured mahogany extending dining table dating to the 1830s .
This table comes with provenance and is stamped with the makers details .
The table was originally built & retailed by cabinet maker & upholsterer Thomas Traherne of 39 Oxford St, London,1835-1842
It’s extremely rare to be able to attribute a piece of furniture of this period to a specific cabinet maker .
The table is of exceptional quality , made from solid mahogany throughout . moulded edge, composed of two end sections, extending to take two leaves and standing on four bold William IV period legs , raised on original large brass cup castors. pull out mechanism secured by brass catches , In wonderful condition throughout.
Max Dimensions: 280.5 cm length x 113.5cm wide x 73cm high (fully extended)
Total dimensions of the table without the extension leaves 141 cm L x 113.5 cm W x 73 cm H
Each of the two extension leaves measure 70 cm length and 113.5 in width
Treherne, Thomas (1835-1842)

Also had an address in Newman Street. There is evidence that some furniture bears an identifying impressed mark but the only unambiguously marked items are a mahogany butler’s tray, sold Christie’s South Kensington, 6 July 1994, lot 208, ink-stamped ‘T Treherne, Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer, 39 Oxford Street London’ and a rosewood Canterbury, sold Sotheby’s, 19 Feb 1898, lot 276 (illus. Gilbert (1996), figs 918a and 918). The latter is copied from a design published by J.C. Loudon in 1833.
