William IV Flame Mahogany Library Bookcase
This lovely antique bookcase dates from the first part of the nineteenth century. It is constructed from what we believe to be mostly solid mahogany with lovely flame mahogany veneers. Please note that the piece would benefit from some restoration work - one of the glass upper door panels is broken and requires replacement and there is some significant woodworm to the bottom section. The bookcase has a two-door glazed upper section with three adjustable shelves inside. The base section has a single drawer over a two-door cupboard with a single fixed wooden shelf inside. It is supported on a plinth base. Both cupboards retain their locks, and one key is present which works the glazed door lock.
Condition: Overall this piece does have some wear and damage consistent with age and use, and would benefit from some sympathetic restoration work. There is some heavy scuffing, scratching, marking and wear to the woodwork and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some areas of wood and veneer damage and loss, and the top cornice has one side section detached, but present. One of the glass upper door panels is badly broken and requires replacement. One of the drawer runners is loose but present. The key does not currently work the bottom cupboard door lock - it feels like is should, but it probably needs cleaning. Although the lock on the top glazed doors does work they have shrunk over time, and it no loger catches. The upper door with the lock on is also a little warped and does not quite sit flush. There is some significant woodworm damage, mainly to the bottom section - this has been treated, but would benefit from being retreated.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 220cm high, 123cm wide, 45cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
