Circa 1910, very stylish mahogany pedestal desk by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh with major Sir Robert Lorimer influences. The top has an inverted centre on the front and back, and the centre section has a rouge gilded and tooled leather writing surface. The panels on either side of this are in matching flame mahogany, and the fore edge is rounded in tea caddy style. Below this are three drawers on top over three further graduating drawers with stylish proud escutcheons and gilded drop handles in the form of dolphins. There are also pull out slides on both sides with stylish shaped mahogany handles. Beneath the bottom drawer is a simple but stylish shaped apron on all sides, all standing on wonderful stylish squat feet, four on each pedestal. The desk is freestanding with original colour and patination. A top example of Whytock & Reid piece of antique furniture.
