Circa 1920, a neat sized mahogany four door breakfront bookcase by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The breakfront section with its glazed arched cornice, open cornice and open carving in architectural style with Greek key styling and a carved foliate below. The doors have very elaborate stylish solid mahogany astragals with central motifs of wheat sheaves. The four facings are carved with geometric design and flowers below. Below this the bookcase has four doors, again with carved fretwork on the four pilasters. The doors are quarter veneered mahogany with central motif carvings. There is a small shaped skirt and the bookcase stands on 6 elaborately carved feet. All the locks are by R.Langebear of Birmingham, and inside are mahogany faced shelves which are adjustable. The back is panelled in stained pine. The bookcase breaks down into 5 pieces to make it easy for movement. This is an exhibition quality piece of antique furniture by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh.
