Welsh Oak Bureau Cabinet c.1790.
Late 18th.c. Welsh oak bureau cabinet bookcase c.1790. Designed for low ceilings, the unusual proportions (just 75″ tall) small and steep fall front and imposing cornice are typical of those found in the Carmarthenshire area of South Wales (similar examlpes can be found in Richard Bebb’s wonderful two volume studdy of Welsh Furniture).
Two door cupboard or bookcase top with dental cornice above a carved frieze, raised and fielded panelled doors flanked on each side with unusual twist carving. Over a bureau base with a fitted interior of small drawers and a cupboard with scratch carved detail. Typical of the form the interior is recessed to provide a useable work space despite the very narrow fall. Three long drawers with turned wooden knobs, panelled fall, sides and rear. Solid oak construction throughout. Excellent colour and condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
