Perhaps the most fearsome of close combat weapons of WW1. The massive Welsh knife carried by machine gunners and raiding parties of the royal Welsh fusiliers the design was based on the ancient Welsh sword the weapons were provided by lord Howard de Walden privately funded. Some were forged in local armouries and some in France they are sometimes found with the Welsh motto Dros Urddas Cymru fort he dignity of Wales . Cast in one piece with a folding guard and a triangular pommel or skull cracker the grip rope bound . These are frequently reproduce this one is totally right the edge is still very sharp as you can see it has dark age patina and some pitting a rare weapon to find in uncleaned condition.
