A superb walnut writing bureau in excellent antique condition, with a crossbanded fall-front and working key. The fall rests on slides with brass pull handles and with green baize. Below sits one smaller drawer over three graduating drawers, all with decorative brass handles and escutcheons, running smoothly on cabriole legs with shell knees and a scalloped apron. Inside, the fall-front reveals pigeonholes, small drawers, and a central cupboard concealing a hidden compartment with a discreet drawer—an intriguing detail of fine craftsmanship. A brass presentation plaque adds character. Though showing minor imperfections typical of age, this handsome bureau boasts rich colouring and patination, making it a striking and practical addition to any study or office.
