Charming little Arts & Crafts or Aesthetic Movement walnut side table by the pioneering English designer Edward Godwin c.1870. 17″ square top with a simple thumb moulded edge raised on turned legs with bobbin detail and shaped feet. Joined a useful second shelf with slim turned spindles and stretchers below, a Japanese influenced design detail typical of Godwin’s work. Very unusually the piece is stamped E.W Godwin on the underside. With an old repair to one of the legs (where the stretcher joins), otherwise very good original colour and condition.
