Victorian Walnut Breakfront Fitted Wardrobe
A good quality English Victorian burr walnut three door breakfront wardrobe dating to circa 1870. Of rounded design with a moulded cornice above three arched panelled doors, the compactum like fitted interior with two long hanging spaces, hat shelf, sliding trays and drawers. Featuring nice ogee mouldings and good figuring to the veneers it has brass key liners, locks stamped ‘VR’ and ‘Bailey McCathie’, hinges stamped ‘Patent lock joint’ and stands on a plinth base. With straight grain walnut side, copper hanging bars and original brass hooks, the interior lining fabric has been removed.
Of solid construction with tight joints and dovetailed drawers, due to the nature of the walnut veneers there are some dark marks and inlaid and wax filled patches, the colour & polish has mellowed and there is fading to the veneer join on the right door, some drying lines and a minor repair to the panel at the back of the centre door. Mirror good, some greyish marks in lower half.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 85 1/4in (216.5cm)
Depth at sides - 30 3/4in (78cm)
Height - 81 3/4in (207.5cm)
Internal hanging depth - 19in (48.5cm)
For moving this item divides into five sections (cornice, plinth, left hanging section, centre section and right section).
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos as we are limited in the number we can upload.
Ref: 0510 Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina.
