Description
1897 pitch pine Metomorphic Chapel bench 8 available
This is a bench and can be turned into a desk By the turning of a cast iron peg that pivots flat for a desk or tilts to form the back rest for a bench , includes a chalk rebate and holes where ink wells used to sit , it seats four people Easily The whole pitch pine seat area and desk are fixed to cast iron frames with makers name cast into the legs of the frame
2 can be Combined together to form a large table should the need arise
The benches are dismantled and will be shipped that way they are very heavy but have a set of wheels built into the frame
Totally original as found Large Gothic victorian pitch Pine Metamorphic School Desk / chapel bench
Makers “ John Heywood Manchester” is cast into each frame
Total length is 252 cm
Total height is 72 cm
The seat height is 44 cm from the floor
The overall width is 65 cm
The table top measures 32 cm wide
One desk would seat 4 people
They were originally used as chapel bench or chapel school desk
