Victorian Mahogany Filing or Chemists Shop Drawers


A large original bank of 35 shop or filing drawers in mahogany and dating to the 19th century. By Simpoles of Manchester each drawer has a brass name plate with thumb pull, strong dovetail joints and a curved cut-away side for easy removal of contents. The main case splits in two halves for removal with the join across the central column of drawers.
The existing labels for J B Cawdells Dispensing Chemist in Thrapston provide a fascinating snap-shot of life at a traditional chemists with Compound Liquorice Powder, Friars’ Balsam and Extract of Cascar Sagrada being served alongside Flowers of Sulphur,
Citric Acid and Poison!
In original untouched condition with some damages to drawer edges and shrinkage line to side.
