Victorian Irish Killarney Ware Arbutus Work Table
An exceptional quality Irish Killarney ware arbutus work table inlaid throughout with shamrocks, thistles and roses. The shaped octagonal top with radial veneers and opening to reveal a removable sectioned and lidding sewing tray with paper lined compartment below. Raised on a trumpet column with octagonal inlaid platform base and four upward scrolled feet. In good condition with working lock and key, slight unevenness to the top and the inside with shrinkage splits to the lid, traces of old worm holes to the base and feet, sympathetically cleaned and waxed ready for use.

Arbutus and yew are the main timbers used in Killarney furniture and were versatile in the effects created by the use of its veneers from the root, trunk and branches. Other local timbers were also used including holly, sycamore, laburnum and maple as well as Irish bog oak.
